White hair after chemo?

does anyone know how to get your hair color back to normal after getting chemo treatments. my hair used to be brown and now its more of a whitish grey color.

Congrats on getting through chemo!

My hair also came back different after chemo. It was curly and lots of grey. After several months, it started to go back to "normal" or at least as normal as I could be after chemo. It's a long process.

The curl mostly left and the grey sort of left. Now I'm slightly curly with pepper. I stopped chemo in 2003, so it does take some time.

If yours really bothers you, you could dye it. Or, you could wait it out and see if it changes. Once you start with the dye, there is upkeep to it because your roots will grow in grey.

I would also recommend talking with your doctor before putting any chemicals on your body. You just had a whole lot of chemicals in your body. I'd hate to see anything you put on your hair interact with that.

Again, congrats, that's a huge accomplishment.

I dyed mine my natural color dark brown, if you are a guy they have dyes that only take 5 minutes. I had chemo too.

I lost my hair to chemo. And when it grew back in, it was thinner (still full, but not as full as it was) and I have a "Cruella De Ville" white stripe right down the middle.

I'm proud of it. I refuse to use hair color. But if yours bothers you, you can try that. There's nothing else you can do. Be glad yours grew back.

Other than using hair dye, it's possible that you are stuck with the new hair color. Chemo works by killing cells that are rapid growers, such as tumor cells, and, you guessed it, hair cells. That's a big reason why hair falls out with chemo. One of the cell types that is closely associated with the hair follicles is the melanocyte. This is the cell that is responsible for depositing melanin and other color producing chemicals in the growing hair shaft. As melanocytes are a fast growing cell type, the chemo killed them off too. That's why your hair is lacking in color now (technically, grey is not a hair color. It's the absence of color chemicals in the hair shaft). The only thing to do is wait and see if the color starts to come back. It may take years to fully recover your hair color. Just have patience! Props on getting through chemo!

You could try coloring it. It will never be the same though. Remember: You have put chemicals into your system that kill all kinds of cells.
